Here is my entry for the Fantasy Fathers Day Competition, I know you will enjoy it!

After 30 laps I am still trying to make best of not starting in pole position. This is it, the last lap, I feel a surge of adrenaline, as I rapidly down change gears, anticipation of a possible win. I am approaching speeds into this first corner that you don't normally with general road driving. I suddenly realise all of a sudden I have to rapidly make a gear change down or I won't make the first corner.

I bolt out of the corner as I enter a short straight. I have an opportunity before hitting second corner to make fourth gear. I enter the corner and I hit the brakes hard coming out, rapidly approach the cars in front of me, seeing three other vehicles leading the race. I have gained on position three with that car directly in front and we're almost crunching bumper bars.

This race is occurring in my mind and I am now in third position.

I have just passed Craig Lowndes and only have Peter Brock and Dick Johnson ahead.

The next sets of corners, turns and straights are a blur. I have passed all drivers in the race, bar two and I am approaching the final turn. Johnson is just ahead of me with Brocky in front of him. Lowndes is only languishing behind me as I know something mechanical went wrong. I could easily smell burnt oil and I can almost hear Craig curse.

I hit the final corner the hardest and fastest I have ever driven in my professional career and surprise myself with bolting out like a bullet past Johnson. I don't even look over as I know he is concentrating like me. Just get ahead of everyone else.

I have Brocky finally in my sights and there is nano-seconds separating the two of us. I slam the car forward with effectively timing my last gear change into fifth and put pedal to the metal. I am also almost willing the car to get past Brock.

… And then it happens, out of nowhere my left rear tires screams it's had enough and explodes. Years of training, race experience and not giving in to panic helps me keep my cool during a crisis. The car careens and rapidly commences spinning to my left, yet the car hurtles towards the wall to the right of me. I brace for impact knowing that very soon I will slam into the wall. I hit it hard and grit my teeth, all the while thinking I have most likely lost one. The car bounces back off the hard, unyielding wall and I sense more than see Dick Johnson hurtle pass.

I am OK and signal my team I am fine if not a little shaken. I haven't won the race but in my minds eye I have won the hearts of my legions of fans.

I do look forward to potentially getting a gift for Father's Day knowing that I can drive 10 whilst coached with a professional. THEN let a professional driver with me as passenger, race around the track at speeds only dreamed of! All in a V8 Supercar!

How fantastic a Father's Day gift that would be!
